FAQs

  • We accept submissions from racialized and/or queer artists and writers! Anyone historically underrepresented and underserved in the literary-arts space is welcome to submit, including disabled, working-class, and women artists. No prior 'professional' experience is required; our journal aims to platform emerging and established artists and writers of all ages.

  • If you have previously been published in our journal, please wait one year (3 issues) before sending new work. We aim to balance work from artists new to us and those whose work we have adored and published previously.

If you have submitted to us before but have NOT been accepted for publication, you are more than welcome to submit again!

  • Yes, we accept simultaneous submissions; however, please notify us by email if you have been accepted elsewhere. We want to congratulate you!

  • Yes, we accept previously published work! However, it is pertinent that the initial publication allows you to submit such work to other organizations/publications. If so, please credit them in your submission, and we will give all due credit. If not, please do not submit your work.

  • We are a triannual publication, meaning we publish three issues per year: Autumn, Winter, and Summer.

    Our submission windows are typically:

    • July-October (Autumn Issue)

    • October-January (Winter Issue)

    • March-June (Summer Issue)

  • At this moment, we are in the works of transitioning to Submittable for receiving submissions. However, for the time being, we utilize google forms to collect your work, which houses further general submission information.

  • Our response time is generally between 2-4 weeks, though it can extend to 4-6 weeks. If you have not heard from us within 35 days, please feel free to reach out to us via email (theredwoodliteraryreview@gmail.com). We are an entirely volunteer-run journal and appreciate your patience!

  • No! We are a free journal hoping to highlight and nourish the creative soul of historically underrepresented artists!

  • Unfortunately, at this time, we aren't able to provide compensation to our contributors as the cost of running the journal and printing copies exceeds our current budget, but we truly appreciate your understanding as we work towards growing and hopefully offering payment in the future.

Contributors will, however, recieve a small 15% off discount on the print issue they are featured in.

  • Artists and writers maintain full copyright ownership of their work following publication in our journal.

You are entitled to reuse, distribute, and republish your work. We respectfully ask that you acknowledge our journal as the original source of publication when submitting to other journals.

We retain the right to showcase your work on our social media and promotional platforms.

  • Your work might be reviewed by our editorial team for possible revisions. We strive to maintain transparency with any changes or suggestions we propose, ensuring they align with our journal's standards. As the artist and writer, you have the right to accept or decline these revision requests. Our goal is to foster open communication throughout this process.
